| S Korea, Japan to discuss bilateral FTA next week |
SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea and Japan will discuss whether to resume negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement(FTA) between the two nations next week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Thursday.
According to the ministry, officials from South Korea and Japan will launch a two-day meeting on Monday in Tokyo.
"The matter of resuming free trade talks depends on the Japanese side," said Han Dong-man, the ministry's senior coordinator for trade policy planning and public relations, in an telephone interview with the local Yonhap News Agency.
"The degree to which Japan lowers its trade barriers on agricultural goods will depend on whether we return to the negotiating table," Han said.
The talks on South Korea-Japan FTA began in December 2003 but was suspended in November 2004 due to differences over liberalizing farm goods.
