| Minister: China willing to help restart WTO talks |
BEIJING, Aug. 29 (AP) -- China's commerce minister says Beijing is willing to help revive stalled WTO talks but rich countries should first make "substantial contributions," a state news agency said Tuesday.
Commerce Minister Bo Xilai made the remark on Monday to visiting U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Schwab was in Beijing to press for Chinese help in restarting World Trade Organization talks that were suspended last month after the United States and other major traders failed to agree on a plan to cut barriers to farm commerce.
"China is willing to work with other parties to revive the Doha Round of global trade negotiations," Xinhua paraphrased Bo as saying. However, he reportedly added, "The developed members of the World Trade Organization should act first by making substantial contributions."
The three-sentence report didn't say whether Bo gave details of what steps Beijing was looking for from developed countries.
