| Tourists each spend 54 USD in "golden week" |
BEIJING, Oct. 9 -- Touristsspent an average of 420 yuan (54 U.S. dollars) per person in China during the weeklong National Day holiday, China National Tourism Administration reported today.
During the holidays, 133 million people traveled in the country, growing 19.3 percent from a year earlier. Their spending topped 55.9 billion yuan (7.1 billion dollars), up 20.7 percent.
Tourists spent the most while shopping, as the sales income of 174 shopping malls in 39 cities covered by the survey reached 5.27 billion (667 million dollars) yuan.
Spending in the civil aviation industry reached 2.45 billion yuan (310 million dollars), and railway transportation raked in 1.31 billion yuan (166 million dollars).
Ticketing income totaled 608 million yuan (76.9 million dollars)in 119 scenery spots, and the sales income of 179 restaurants amounted to 391 million yuan (49.5 million dollars).
Chinese consumers bought about 300 billion yuan (38 billion dollars) worth of goods during the holiday, up 14.5 percent from a year earlier, the Ministry of Commerce said yesterday
