| Electrical products to have green "e" tag |
BEIJING, Dec. 5 -- Consumers will see an "e" label on electronic products from March 1, which means the product is environmental-friendly, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
Manufacturers and sellers of electronic products must test whether their goods are environmentally friendly, according to the Regulation for Pollution Control of Electronic Information Products issued by seven state authorities.
If the hazardous materials in the products are lower than the standard, the producers or sellers can paste an "e" tag on them, but they must write down the harmful materials, elements and recycling information on pamphlets to remind the customers, the report said.
China enacted new standards to help Chinese electrical and electronic product exporters meet the stricter environmental regulations set by the European Union.
EU standards, such as RoHS, or Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment, have become a barrier for Chinese manufacturers looking to extend their businesses overseas.
