| SK-II suspends selling products in Chinese mainland |
SHANGHAI, Sept. 22 -- SK-II announced today that it will stop selling cosmetics on China's mainland until its products meet the country's standards, Xinhua news agency reported today.
Three more kinds of Procter and Gamble's SK-II cosmetics have been found containing toxic chemicals, chromium and neodymium, raising the number of P&G's problematic products to 12.
The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration yesterday ordered the company to stop selling its cleansing cream, OB-3 whitening foundation and anti-wrinkle treatment essence.
"We found 4.84 milligrams per kilogram of chromium in its whitening foundation on the local market," said Gu Zhenhua, an official with the administration.
P&G, however, changed the refund sites yesterday from the Park Hotel to four other locations, without informing its consumers beforehand.
As well, the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau has ordered P&G to stop forcing consumers to sign waivers saying there was no quality problem with the cosmetics.
