HK's industrial production index decreases 4.15 in Q2 
HONG KONG, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The industrial production index for the manufacturing sector fell 4.1 percent in the second quarter of this year compare with the same period of last year, Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department said Friday.

The corresponding producer price index rose 6.6 percent, compared with a 5.7 percent year-on-year increase in the first quarter.

Compared to a year earlier, the apparel (except footwear) industry saw the largest fall in output (-20.1 percent), followed by textiles (including knitting) (-12.2 percent), basic metals and fabricated metal products (-11.6 percent) and electrical and electronic products, machinery, professional equipment and optical goods (-11.2 percent). Output of the food, beverages and tobacco industry surged 4.7 percent, the department said.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the industrial production index for the sector as a whole fell 0.5 percent.

Compared a year earlier, the fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) industry saw the largest rise in producer prices (13.8 percent), followed by machinery, equipment, apparatus, parts and components (4.6 percent) and plastic products (3.4 percent).

Producer prices in the consumer electrical and electronic products industry fell 2.4 percent while textiles (including knitting) dropped 1.5 percent.
