| China revises 2005 economic growth rate up to 10.4 percent |
BEIJIGN, Jan. 23 (AP) -- China's government has revised its 2005 economic growth rate up to 10.4 percent from the previous figure of 10.2 percent, the country's statistics agency said Tuesday.
The revised figure, reported by the National Bureau of Statistics on its Web site, was the highest annual growth rate since 1995, when the economy expanded by 10.9 percent.
A spokeswoman for the agency who refused to give her name said the agency made the change after it received additional information on 2005's economic activity. She said such changes are made almost every year.
The country's economic output was revised upward by 78.3 billion yuan to 18.4 trillion yuan, the agency said.
It was the second time the government has raised the 2005 economic growth figure, following a revision in August to 10.2 percent from an earlier estimate of 9.9 percent.
The government is scheduled to announce the 2006 annual economic growth figure on Thursday.
Preliminary estimates show the economy expanded by 10.5 percent last year, the chairman of the country's main planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission, said this month.
