| Chinese monk crawling to India for harmonious world |
PATNA, India, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese monk, who has been crawling all his way to Bodh Gaya in North Indian state Bihar from China's Tibet to spread the message of world peace and pray for international harmony, reached here Tuesday.
"I am undertaking this kind of bizarre journey to promote world peace and non-violence and harmony," Sherof Thamse told Xinhua.
For the journey, Sherof wears a traditional monk robe and apron over it. He wears shoes with wheel tyre souls and a pair of gloves in hands that also looks like boots.
Sherof, who is 30 years old, began his long crawling journey from Tibet some 18 months ago after saying good-bye to his aging mother and elder brother.
Sherof usually travels six kilometers a day and then takes restby pitching a make-shift tent along the route. He survives on only banana or fried flour.
His pilgrimage touched many Indians as an Indian couple named Sonam Yeshi and Peman joined in his pilgrimage, following him all the way in India.
The couple carries a small pulling cart with two by-cycle wheels upon which they carries the makeshift tent, gas stove and other necessary luggage needed in course of journey.
The Chinese monk will offer special prayers at Mahabodhi Temple near the mythological Bodhi tree where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment 2,550 years ago.
The Mahabodhi Temple was declared a world heritage by UNESCO in June 2002.
