Vietnam to host biggest banking conference in May
HANOI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- An international banking conference, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, will take place here from May 31 to June 1, providing a platform for foreign and local state and corporate officials to seek solutions most suitable to the country's banking sector.

"Banking Vietnam 2007 is a good forum for foreign and local managers, scientists, specialists and entrepreneurs in charge of banking and finance as well as information and communication technology to have deeper insights of the banking world to map out more practical and concrete strategies," Nguyen Van Xuan, vice director of the Informatics Technology Department under the State Bank of Vietnam, told reporters Thursday.

At the conference with the theme "Modern Vietnam Banking System and International Economic Integration", delegates, including those from Vietnamese government agencies, the World Bank and big financial institutions and information technology firms, will focus their presentations and discussions on four major fields: new trends of payments and services, database and wealth management, new issues of building secured bank and risk management, and investment, stock exchange and bond market.

According to the event's organizers, the department and the International Data Group, the discussions, especially those relating to stock investment, transaction safety and security, non-cash payment, and the development of such new services as chip-using cards, mobile banking and wireless banking, will draw close attention of managers and solutions providers since Vietnam is making progress in the fields, while it is gradually opening up its banking sector in accordance with World Trade Organization commitments.
