| S.Korean official: FTA talks with Japan not to make progress |
SEOUL, April 20 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's chief negotiator for the free trade agreement (FTA) talks with the United States Kim Jong-hoon said Friday that as Japan is not ready to make concessions, the FTA talks between South Korea and Japan won't make progress.
A proposed South Korea-Japan FTA should be an opportunity for South Korea to better access the Japanese market for agricultural and fisheries goods, Kim Jong-hoon said in a speech at the Federation of Korean Industries, a business lobby group.
However, because Japan is not ready to make concessions in agriculture, South Korea believes the negotiation won't make progress, said Kim.
South Korea reached a free trade pact with the United States on April. 2. The deal needs to be ratified by the South Korean National Assembly and the U.S. Congress before the two governments signed on its on June 30.
