| Indonesia says 8% growth possible |
JAKARTA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Tuesday the economy could grow by as fast as 8 percent as the country now enjoys political stability and improving macroeconomic indicators.
"The economy once grew by 8.5 percent. So it's not an impossible task, neither is it a difficult one," he told reporters here.
Political unrest and economic woes that hit the country several years ago "have all gone," he said.
The government has targeted a growth of 6.3 percent this year and an average of 6.2 percent a year during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's five-year term that ends 2009.
The economic growth has never reached 6 percent since the bitter financial crisis in 1997.
