| S Korean president vows to push forward S Korean-EU FTA negotiation |
SEOUL, July 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun said on Friday that the government will concentrate on concluding a free trade agreement (FTA) deal with the European Union (EU) in a bid to upgrade competitiveness of the South Korean economy.
The cabinet has to do its best to successfully conclude the ongoing FTA talks with the EU, utilizing its capabilities acquired in the process of the FTA deal with the United States, Roh said at a meeting with officials related to the FTA negotiations.
"I feel relieved, as the cabinet ministers appear to have the capability to sufficiently cope with FTA negotiations with the EU. The FTA deals are expected to elevate Korea's economic system and competitiveness to the levels of the U.S. and EU," Roh was quoted as saying by South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.
South Korea and the EU launched their FTA negotiations on May 7.The second round of the FTA negotiations will be kicked off in mid-July in Brussels.
