Tokyo shares end marginally higher 
TOKYO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks went slightly higher on Wednesday amid inactive trading.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 18.82 points, or 0.10 percent, to 18,168.72.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 0.58 point, or 0.03 percent, to 1,782.44.

Major gainers of the day included rubber product manufacturers, real estate firms and miscellaneous product manufacturers. In contrast, oil, coal product, paper and pulp, and bank issues lost ground.

Declining issues outpaced advancing ones 987 to 580 on the First Section, with 159 shares ending the day unchanged.

Softbank became the most heavily traded issue in terms of value, up 100 yen to 2,845 yen.

Seika, a machinery trader belonging to the Mitsubishi group, was the day's volume leader. It rose 65 yen to 439 yen.

Trading volume on the main section lessened to 1,523.73 million shares from Tuesday's 1,778.04 million shares.

The TSE's Second Section index fell 4.13 points, or 0.10 percent, to 4,218.76 on a volume of 55.30 million shares. On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term September Nikkei 225 index futures contract fell 20 points to 18,190.
