Vietnam phone subscriptions surge in first half 
HANOI, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam signed up over 11 million phone subscribers in the first half of this year, posting a year-on-year surge of 258 percent, and raising the total phone subscriptions in the country to 38.8 million or 45.8 units per 100residents, local newspaper New Hanoi reported Thursday.

Up to 74 percent of the 38.8 million phone subscribers are mobile phone ones, the newspaper quoted the country's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications as reporting.

By late June, Vietnam had had 16.2 million Internet users, including over 4.5 million Internet subscribers, reaching an Internet penetration rate of 19.5 percent. It eyes 6 million Internet subscribers by late 2007, up from over 4 million by late 2006.
