| China's car sales up nearly 26% in first half |
BEIJNG, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Despite slackening in the past two months, China managed to chalk up a year-on-year growth of 25.9 percent in car sales for the first half of this year, sources with the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said on Saturday.
From January to June, 3.08 million passenger vehicles were sold nationwide, up 22.3 percent. The total included 2.29 million cars, up 25.9 percent, 107,000 MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles), up 12.9 percent, and 158,000 SUVs (sport-utility vehicles), up 39.3 percent.
CAAM sources said in the six-month period, the top five best sellers were Santana, Jetta, Excelle, Camary and QQ, and the top carmakers in terms of sales were FAW Volkswagen, Shanghai Volkswagen, Chery, Dongfeng-Nissen and Guangzhou Honda.
